Welcome to the Melrose Hickory Hawks
Ski Club
Your membership to the Hawks will be good from now thru - Oct 2006. The club is open year round for use by you and your guests. In October, locks are changed and members join for the upcoming year.
General Rules
Guests:
- If you have guests stay with you, place the fees into an envelope and
then into the mail box by the kitchen entrance. The club operates on a tight
budget. Collecting fees helps keep it affordable for all.
Bunks:
- Men's bunk room has become co-ed. Women's bunk room is strictly female only. Knock on the inner door and wait till someone opens it before going in.
- Reservations for the weekends. There's usually plenty of beds that reservations aren't taken except for big weekends such as Ice-Bar. The club will send out a general announcement when reservations are needed. Beyond that, bunks are first come first serve. Members get priority on bottom bunks.
- Lights and quiet time. After 7 PM, lights should be turned down and noise kept to a minimum in the bunk house for those who might be sleeping.
- Heating. The thermostat for the bunk house is in the girls bunk room. It's set for 55 degrees during the day and week. You can override it - instructions posted by the thermostat. I'd recommend not setting it above 65 during the night, or the men's bunk room becomes a sweatbox.
Use of the club
- No smoking inside the club or bunkhouse
- Members are encouraged to use the club year round. Many members come up to hike, fish, MT bike and just enjoy the MT. Washington area during the off ski season period.
- Spending extended time at the club. Typically members are allowed to spend one full week at the club during the ski season. This is due to the expense of heating two builds during the week. If members want additional extended stays, requests need to be made to the board for approval. The summer is more relaxed. However to maintain our club status, we are not allowed to have people live at the club.
- You may have under 21 guests up during the week and during the off season. During the ski season weekends, guests must be 21 years or older.
- No under age drinking at the club is allowed at any time during the year.
- Beer fridge. The club opens this up during the season so members can have a few beers. When open, we ask that members enjoy themselves, but if you have a few, please help out the club and put a few dollars into the mailbox or replace the beer.
- We have a maid that comes in every other weekend during the ski season to help keep the place clean. All members should help out by picking up after themselves, putting out the trash, cleaning dishes and the fireplace. Also remember to turn down the heat in both buildings when you leave.
- Use of the fireplace. It's extremely shallow causing it to be a smoker. You'll learn this the first time you use it. Keep the fire to 3-4 logs - pushed way to the back. The screen must be used at all times. There's a fan in the attack to help pull smoke out of the club. The switch is located to the left of the doorway to the bathroom area. Also don't leave a raging fire unattended. The maid does not clean out the fireplace, so members need to do this at the end of their stay.
- Work weekend. We hold one or two work weekends each fall and one during the spring to help ready the club for the upcoming season. Past year full members who rejoin as full members again are required to perform two days of work weekend or pay a fine of $100. Despite it's name, the weekends turn out to be a lot of fun. Members get to catch up with one another, help upkeep the club and go out for dinner and a night of entertainment.
- Outside noise. We have very accommodating neighbors that live there year round. To my knowledge, they've never complained about the club. Try to be respectful and keep the outside noise down.
